Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)

Its roof is critical to the safety of your structure. Ultraviolet rays, accumulated water, and strong winds all work together to weaken your roofing system. This can lead to leaks, damage to the building, expensive repairs, and even early tear-off and re-roofing. Fortunately, PVC roofs are not susceptible to any of these issues, so to speak.

For the uninitiated, Polyvinyl Chloride, or PVC, in Short, is essentially a derivative of two fundamental components, namely, chlorine from common salt and ethylene from natural gas. Also referred to as thermoplastic or vinyl and widely acknowledged as one of the most adaptable plastic polymers ever manufactured since the dawn of human civilization on earth, if required, you can make it stiff, flexible, or semi-flexible as per your requirement simply by altering the ratio of these two components and adding substances. 

PVC is a genuine performer, whether rigid as a pipe or malleable as a sheet product, and whilst both TPO and the former are thermoplastic single-ply roofing materials, their chemical composition, and physical qualities are considerably different. They are also mutually incompatible. PVC has gained immense popularity since the nineteen sixties as an ideal roofing material and the end-users never experienced any significant problems per se during its application lifecycle.

Your roofer may fasten the TPO or PVC to the roofing substrate by employing mechanical means, such as plates and screws, or have it glued as well. The roofing specialist will expose the overlapping seams of PVC to blasts of hot air so that they can keep water out of the structure, and once the person completes welding the seams together, they become one of the strongest parts of your roof. You can be more than certain that they will never break down over time like the kind of seams attached with glue, double-sided tape, or asphalt do.
