Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM)
Immensely popular in the low-slope commercial roofing industry, Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, or EPDM, in short, is a flexible rubber roofing membrane. It has a lot of long-term benefits, like being more resistant to bad weather, being very resistant to wind uplift, being very flexible, and more. Building on a legacy of innovation in rubber polymer technology, the EPDM system has produced more than three decades of commercial roofing performance.
You may choose to install the flexible membrane in several ways, such as completely adhered, ballasted, or mechanically connected. It can withstand the weather for a long time and is resistant to wind turbulence. EPDM is virtually impervious to ozone, Ultraviolet rays, and extreme temperatures. It comes in huge panels of about 177 square meters each and your roofing professional will apply primers as well as self-adhesive material so that the roofer could bond them together without the need for flames or electricity.
EPDM roofing systems have a very low life cycle cost since they need little or no maintenance during their life and have a lower installation cost. Such roofs have worked well in temperatures from -450C in Canada to +450C in Madagascar. To suffice, EPDM is an inert material that has a low environmental impact during production, installation, and usage. It is fully recyclable as well.
